While the World Cup was in full swing, football conversations became more exciting than ever. One debate I experienced that stood out was between Messi and Ronaldo fans. They passionately argued over who has the bigger social media following, who is wealthier, who has scored more goals, and who has won more Ballon d'Or and Golden Boot awards. The discussion was intense - until I decided to ask a completely different question that changed the entire conversation.

"Beyond the trophies, followers, goals, and wealth, who has made a greater humanitarian impact? Who has touched more lives and made a meaningful difference in the world?"

That question changed the tone of the discussion. It also inspired today's conversation: How to Measure Your Success in Life by Having Fun.

Society often measures success by the size of one's bank account, relationship status, awards on shelves, titles held and applauses received. Society has taught us to chase these achievements relentlessly, sometimes at the expense of our joy.

While records and achievements are impressive, the true measure of greatness is not only in what you accomplish for yourself, but of how much you've enjoyed the journey.

Many people spend years climbing the ladder of success only to realize that the ladder was leaning against the wrong wall. These people have wealth but no peace, recognition but no fulfillment, accomplishments yet no memories that truly make them smile. Success without joy is an empty victory.

Life was not designed to be a never-ending race. It was designed to be lived, experienced and enjoyed. My pastor during church service of recent said "life is to be enjoyed and not endured because our God is a God of enjoyment".

Ecclesiastes 8:15 says" "So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad."

Some people feel guilty whenever they are having fun, believing that every waking moment must be productive - I am also guilty of that. Every minute that passes by without me doing a thing feels wasted. While hard work is important, constant hustle without moments of joy can lead to burnout, frustration, and emotional exhaustion. Fun is not the opposite of productivity - it fuels it.

When you laugh, spend time with loved ones, pursue hobbies, travel, impact lives, dance, play games or simply appreciate little moments, you are recharging your mind and soul. These moments often become the moments you treasure the most.

Imagine reaching all your goals but realizing you never truly enjoyed the process. What would that success really mean? The happiest people aren't necessarily those with the most possessions. They are those who have learned to celebrate small victories, embrace simple pleasures, and find joy in every moment  of their daily lives. Life becomes richer when you stop waiting for it to arrive someday and start creating today.

You don't need a major achievement before you can have fun or celebrate. Celebrate when you finish a difficult task, celebrate when you spend quality time with family and loved ones, celebrate watching a beautiful sunset, celebrate sharing laughter with friends, celebrate learning something new, celebrate taking care of your health, celebrate simply making through another challenging day. These seemingly small moments add up to a meaningful life.

Sometimes, instead of asking yourself how much money did I make today, try asking, did I laugh today, did I make someone smile, did I spend time doing what I love? did I create memories worth remembering? Did I live with gratitude, did I enjoy the journey for today? The answers to these questions will reveal a deeper kind of success and help you see if you had a more meaningful day than just counting the figures.

Dream big, work hard, pursue excellence but don't become so focused on reaching your destination that you forget to enjoy the road leading there - the whole journey. The greatest achievements become even more meaningful when they are accompanied by peace. Life is not just about surviving but by thriving and truly living.

At the end of life, people rarely wish they had spent more hours at work or accumulated more possessions. They rather cherish the moments spent with loved ones, the laughter, the adventures they embraced, the people they loved and the memories they created.

Former U.S President, Barrack Obama in an essay titled 'Being The Father I Never Had' said, expressed regret for time spent away from his daughters when they were younger as a result of work and campaign.

Hip hop singer and producer, Usher regretted not spending time with his sick father before it was too late. He said he was busy working while his father was sick. He said "There was no amount of money that could have fixed my father's health. I could have just spent time with him."

America's Pastor, Billy Graham confessed that if he could done thing differently, he would have avoided political conflicts and spent more time with his family.

Continue pursuing your goals with passion and determination, but don't forget to have fun along the way. Because in the end, one of the greatest measures of success isn't just what you achieved. It's how much you experienced while achieving it.

Don't just Survive, Thrive and Flourish
