HOW TO DEVELOP NEW IDEAS FOR YOUR DREAMS AND VISION - PART ONE

Have you ever felt clueless on how to achieve your set goals or dreams in life?

During my three hundred level in an exam hall, I went clueless on a question I knew I had read so well. I kept telling myself I read this, why can't I remember a thing?

This happens to us all in various ways and forms concerning anything we would like to achieve for ourselves. We can sometimes run out of ideas on how to go about realizing our goals. There are times I put down a topic to write on in my blog but by the time I want to write and develop on the topic, I run short of what to write. Have you ever experienced this? I am sure you have.

You have this goal, vision and a great dream you so much desire to achieve but have no idea on how to go about it. Ideation is not an automatic process but can be cultivated and developed over time.

There are ten methods of generating ideas I would like to share with you on how to go about generating ideas for your set goals and dreams in life but for today, we would be considering five methods and the rest would be treated on our next post.

1. NEVER LOOSE SIGHT OF YOUR DREAMS: Whatever goal or dream you want to achieve for yourself, never loose sight of it.  I believe one major form of ideation is never loosing sight of your goal irrespective of how difficult it may seem to achieve at the moment. The more you keep working on your goals the more you have the opportunity for the rain of ideas to come flooding your head and the closer you get realizing your set goals.

Most successful people we see today, admire and aspire to be like are people who never gave up on their dreams and goals in life irrespective of the challenges they faced. An example is col. Harland Sanders who was rejected about 1009 times trying to market his chicken recipe. Despite the rejections, failures and other challenges he experienced, he never lost sight of his dreams until he built the famous Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC).

2. ALWAYS HAVE A NOTEPAD WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES: Developing ideas for your dreams or vision requires you having a note pad with you at all times. On the next post, you will see why you need a note pad or sticky note with you at all times. You never know when you would need them.

3. HAVE MOMENTS ALONE: In this day and age, it is becoming increasingly difficult for people to carve out alone time for themselves. If it is not our demanding jobs taking the most of our time, it is the constant social media chatter that keeps us engaged 24/7.

There is also the misinterpretation of solitude associated with loneliness, isolation and antisocial behavior. This is not always the case. There are records of successful people who carved out a lone time for themselves to reflect and focus on their set goals.

Bill gates carves out a week for himself to read, think and work on his set goals. Warren buffet spends 80% of his day reading and fashioning out ideas for his goals. Oprah Winfrey attribute her success to moments she pends alone to reflect and meditate and a whole lots of others who create time out of their busy schedule and away from the rest of the world to work on their set goals and dreams in life.

Solitude is not in any way associated with loneliness. While loneliness is forced on people, solitude is a choice we make to carve out a lone time for ourselves to rediscover, self reflect, meditate and work on our set goals and dreams in life. Solitude enables us to thrive and flourish in every aspect of life.

4. DISCUSS YOUR DREAMS WITH FEW TRUSTED PEOPLE: I believe there few people in your life that you can trust and confidently go to to discuss your goals and dreams with. I have come to realize that, ideas flow both ways when we discuss our dreams and goals with others either from you or the person or persons you are discussing with.

There are lots of ideas in you lying dormant that you are unaware of because you don't put your brain to work. But in the process of discussing, you realize ideas coming up and you begin to wonder what you were thinking or why you never thought of this and that. It's because you are beginning to put your brain to work. You give room for ideation.

It is said that Elon Musk usually discusses his goals with his team members. I believe not only to motivate them but to also learn a thing or two from them.

5.  ASK QUESTIONS: According to Dr. Mike Murdock, "Questions are the doors of life."  I know it can feel awkward and sometimes embarrassing  to ask certain questions but ask any way. It is said that "he who asks questions, never gets lost." If Mr. A does not answer your questions, nove on to Mr. B. And if Mr. B does not answer, look around you, there is always that one person that will give you the desired answer that you so much crave for concerning your set goals and dreams in life.

Monty Roberts dreamed of owning a Ranch from childhood. One day, as a child, his teacher asked him to write down his dreams which he did in detailed form and showed gave to the teacher. But the teacher marked an F on the paper and when he asked why the F, the teacher said his dream was unrealistic considering his background at the time.

The teacher gave him another opportunity to write his dream. He got home, asked his dad how he was going to rephrase his dream. His dad simply asked him to write his dream the way he wants. He wrote it same way he had written and submitted to the teacher the next day. The teacher still marked an F. But this time, Monty Roberts simply said to the teacher "You can keep you F while I keep my dreams." At the end of the day, Monty Roberts owned his ranch same way he had detailed it for his teacher.

Learn to ask questions especially from people who are so good at generating ideas and successful in chasing and achieving their goals in life. You never know what you can learn from them. That's why it is also good to associate yourself with visionaries - People who have goals, dreams and vision to pursue and realize.

If you are not seeing ways or ideas on how to work on your goals, do not give up. Give yourself time practicing the methods mentioned above. On the next post, we would conclude on the other five, methods. Stay tuned.
